Notes from practice 24 July

Warmup by Rachel

Se del tuo
Inject energy, otherwise sounds like boring polyphony
Start firmly on the note, together, no sliding/drifting
Basses - pay attention to phrasing which softens the words, otherwise leaves us with a tendency to turn it into a march.
Tendency to slow down. Follow Derrick's direction.
Follow the accents.
Tenors - sing with your eyebrows.
Watch rhythm especially after long rests.
Don't  breathe just before last bar whatever you do (GL)!!

Envoi
Tenors late at the beginning. Follow conductor's pace
Basses bars 25 and following emphasise because this is the main theme
Baritones bar 31 stop rushing
In percussive bits emphasise the 'ff' in 'fly'
Last three bars examined breaking the chords down and reassembling

Peacock
Worked on at a slower pace. Needs lots of homework. No longer looking like an impossible task!
Tenors bar 14 note misprint 'I saw saw', delete first 'saw', carry the 'I' for 2 beats
Basses -bar 25 'ground' last 3.5 beats
             - bar 18  work on chromatic steps at home, emphasise each step, ie Cree-EE-ee-ee-ee
             - bar 14 take your C from the tenors' previous note bar 13
Make it as weird as possible - emphasise each note

Piranhas

Dreams

Pronounce world as one syllable, not were-ild

Im Wald
Emphasise vowels not consonants
Remember contrast from p-f-p
