Choir Notes, 10/7/19
Choir Notes, 10th July 2019
1) Se see tuo corpo hoggi la stamps horrenda
- General advice: give the piece direction; think about phrasing; be graceful and imagine people dancing; the music colours the words so think about them together; don't be a robot
- Altos: beware of going flat in 3rds, e.g. bottom of page 2
- Tenors and Basses: be careful with tuning on page 2 (e.g. bar 28 of Tenors), especially of Gs - can stagger breaths amongst you to keep in tune
- Sopranos: practice entry at bar 21, A
- everyone to keep in tune (don't go flat), especially in bars 21-28
- everyone to think about how has the melody at the bottom of page 2 - who is important here; listen to the "al tormento ..." line in other parts
- remember that Che = Ke; Ce = Che; Ci = Chee (listen the recording that Nicola sent around)
- Sopranos: bar 32, don't over egg this, come off softly
- Sopranos: bar 46, don't go flat on the A
- Sopranos: bar 60, make E natural bright
- Sopranos and Basses: bar 61, fi.....yam (where fi is for quavers and yam on first note in bar 62) NB I don't have my music with me when I write this, so they could be semi quavers. Basically yam falls on new bar
- Sopranos: bar 64, don't go flat
- Basses: be careful with singing 'eh', don't close the voice
- Basses: bar 70, 'laugh' the melody
2) Other Plans
- practice clapping the rhythm - it is important to think about where the beat is, and count. Especially in rests. Think about breaking the bar down into beats and hearing them in your head as you sing
- Tenors: bar 6, coming in too late
- everyone to remember 2nd time bar in bar 44 - mark it in your music
- bar 20, don't rush, especially the Sopranos
- Basses: at E, be careful with the rhythm, clap to practice it
- everyone to remember the bar after G repeat
- everyone to practice this at home, need to get a good handle on the rhythms
3) Dream Angus
- Tenor and Basses, at the start, pay attention of the slurs with breathing
- bar 12, imagine there is a rest at the end of the bar in which you should breath
- bar 17, watch when to come off (crotchet off)
It's only 4 rehearsals until our St Giles rehearsal! MC will send an email about practices before the concerts and timings.
