Susan's notes from Sept 17th
We had another go at Bogoroditse Djevo (Pärt), practising getting our tongues round the words to start with. The page turn is tricky so make sure you know what's coming - at the moment we're pausing to gather the troops before we set off on p2. Remember there is a properly scheduled rest at the top of the last page. It's in 3/4 and Ollie will be beating 3 to the bar at this point.
Do big crescendos where marked.
Last few bars - piu lento = look up! Ollie will be beating quavers so watch him.
We'll have to learn this by heart - it will be much easier if we do, and there's plenty of time if we start now!
We then notebashed a new piece by Abbie Betinis, "Run toboggan run". It has some tricky intervals in the lower parts - worth having a look at those before next week.
Here is a copy of the music list that Ollie handed out:
Music for October 8th Concert at the National Library:
- Carver: O Bone Jesu (smaller group)
- Cockburn, Frances: Ae fond kiss
- Phillips, Sheena: Cauld blaws the wind
- Moddie: Mo Ghille Dubh
- Merrylees: Air a' Ghille tha mo Run
- Phillips, Sheena: Fhir a Bhata
- Phillips, Sheena: Auld Lang Syne
Other Music:
- Cloudburst
- Bogoroditse Djevo - Pärt
- Run Toboggan Run - Betinis
- Dormi Jesu - Betinis
- Songs from Behind the Caravan - Betinis (WOMEN ONLY)
Make sure you bring all this with you from now on. If you don't have a copy let me know.
Chris reminded us that he has put up MP3s of most of the pieces we're doing at:
