Jenny's rehearsal notes - 1st August
Darkeyed Sailor
Start quiet but bouncy
Paid attention - decrescendo and staccato
air - slight crescendo
She said - slight crescendo
while tears did fall bit - legato
Half humming -can you all do the same sort of hum
P4. was a good crescendo - watch the pause, legato and p and Animato
Altos - nice shape but keep it p
Men make sure you come before women (rephrase that yourselves) at the a
tempo
Well done
River Dance
Funny new thing please make sure you pick one up
Do what we're not supposed to do in Varvindar with the rhythm
basses have runs
watch rhythms
How do I get this down - the crotchet followed by quaver is a triple rhythm NOT a crotchet and quaver rhythm.
Anyway it's lots of fun I like it
Yoshke Fort Avek
Right I was supposed to do a summary of the pronounciation. Sebastian has done a sheet which you can pick up on Wednesday (as well as the music for those, like me, who weren't there to get a copy the first week back) Anyway, it's basically the same as on the sheet
v1 Koyf mir (meer) Keyn (cane) ....
chorus - as on sheet really
v2 Zay (zie as in lie) mir (meer) gezunt, mayn (mine) tayere (tie-ere)....nokh ale (atlah)
v3 Di ban (bahn) iz shoyen gekummen es (the Kummen has to be two semiquavers to fit in. Without the music I can't remember quite how it goes but make sure you find out and write it in)
v4 Klog-zhe nit un veyn (vine)........sheynster (shine-ster) in der rote (wrought)
v5 Droysn iz......shney (shnie)
Think German, and East Europian and you'll get it
Pay particular attention to the kh sounds - choke on it. Think portuguese (and don't travel on their buses because the men choke their phlegm up with great noises, hold their hankies at arms length - not too good if you were sitting in front of someone - and aim the goz at the centre of the hanky)
Magnum
Phrasing, Dynamics, legato, listen to others
Well done. especially bar 43 - lots of bass
Arno is doing the top E
John is doing whatever he's strong at
Sebastian is a question mark
p.46 - Runt - Sopranos give it wellie
Altos conserve your breaths
End bar 45 - basses Don't breathe with tenors. Altos don't breathe at all and tenors take a sneaky one. Sopranos REALLY don't breathe over the bar line but keep the volume and increase volume at bar 47
My True love
Pick one up please (I mean nothing more than a copy!)
F given for starters (there was some confusion whether F meant a note or dynamic. It's the note F)
Cross out the rest in bar 28 on p. 3.
Dynamics - Crescendo through heart - bar 28 - but only a little more than mp
p 4 bar 37 crescendo up to mf and bring it back down to mp by bar 39
bar 44 everyone is f. Everyone diminuendo bar 47
bar 48 and 49 swell and come back down
Sopranos mf all through. And be expressive
Everyone else underneath - imitate a heartbeat at mp level
